History

We are pleased to announce the formation of a new association to partner with USATKD in the State of Ohio. For decades, former associations, such as Ohio State Taekwondo Association (OSTA), served as the USATKD State Association to provide a variety of development activities and to host an annual tournament. Numerous athletes, referees, and coaches benefited from the efforts of the associations – we appreciate their passion and dedication to the art and sport of Taekwondo.

All associations are volunteer lead non-profits which require constant engagement, participation, and funding. Understandably, this can be challenging, especially during the pandemic. Once the former association moved passed multiple years of challenges, officers of OSTA evaluated the status of the association and discussed how to move forward.

After extensive discussions, the OSTA board determined it was best to establish a new organization and dissolve OSTA. The association from a legal perspective had become dormant and no longer formally incorporated. USAT was notified of the OSTA board vote to dissolve and provided guidance on expectations to properly establish a new association. A dedicated team of volunteers donated their time and resources to move forward with the legal and administrative actions to formally establish a new USATKD State Association – formally known as Ohio Taekwondo Association (OTA).

The Ohio Taekwondo Association received non-profit designation from the IRS and State of Ohio in December 2024 and was recognized by USATKD in January 2025. After extensive discussions and reaching out contacts around the state, an initial board and state president was named to establish a strong foundation for the association going forward.

Ohio Taekwondo Association is committed to providing development opportunities in partnership with USA Taekwondo and helping to advance the interest of the sport and art of Taekwondo in Ohio. We cannot achieve this mission alone and ask for your support.

Now, the Ohio Taekwondo Association stands ready to fulfill the organization's mission and to return Ohio to prominence in Taekwondo Sport competition.  We're still looking for volunteers to help.  Contact officers@ohiotaekwondo.org if you're interested in assisting or if you just need additional information about Taekwondo Sport competition in the state of Ohio.
